WISE International, DUBLIN - 9-11 March 2007

Selection Policy

Introduction

The WISE International will have additional events from 2007 onwards. These are 200m events in all stokes. All other events will remain unchanged. All 200m events including the Individual Medley will be open age group. There will however, in addition, be a 200m IM for Junior Girls and Boys.

As all WISE Internationals from 2007 onwards are to be held in a long course pool there is one further change to the format. Each country will be allowed to nominate TWO swimmers per event. It is important to note, however, that it is NOT two strings. Whoever is the fastest between the two nominated swimmers will gain the points for their country, that is only ONE swimmer per country will be awarded points.

Selection Criteria

Unfortunately, apart from the Schools Championships, there are no long course events that can be used for selection purposes. The following meets will therefore be used to select the team for Dublin:

January 12-14 National Short Course Championships, Tollcross

  January 20/21 Stirling Junior Meet

January 27 Scottish Schools’ Championships, Tollcross

While the selectors will endeavour to select the two fastest swimmers for each event this will not always be possible because of the limit of 40 swimmers in the team. The selectors may have to make adjustments accordingly. The selectors also reserve the right to use the national rankings where it is deemed necessary. The selectors have an obligation to select the strongest possible team. The selectors’ decision will be final.

The team will consist of a maximum of 40 swimmers.

Eligibility

To be eligible for selection swimmers must be in Full Time education either at school or at a College of Further Education. Swimmers who are at College must be enrolled in a non-advanced course.

Age Groups

There will be three groups that make up the team. The ages for selection are:

  Senior 1987 to 1990

  Intermediate 1990 to 1992

  Junior 1992 to 1995

Dates of birth as of 31 August 2007.

For example if a swimmer is born on or before 31 August 1987 then they are too old for selection. Similarly if a swimmer is born after 31 August 1995 they are too young for selection. Swimmers must swim in their own age group although it is permissible to swim up an age group for relay swims.

The team will be selected within a few days of the Championships in January but swimmers who may be in line for selection should indicate their willingness and availability at the Championships.

Once agreed by the selectors the team will be posted on the Schools’ website –

www.scottishschoolsswimming.co.uk

Information on selection for the UK School Games in Coventry 2007 will also appear on the website. At present the final date has not been decided.

Confirmation

If you are selected you will receive a letter from Scottish Schools’ Swimming Association. Will you please confirm your acceptance as soon as possible so that we can provide names for the Airline?
